Enotes Do Not Read Until November 5th! |
Okay, so you're reading this a day early. Election Day is always an exciting time, especially when we are electing a President for the United States. This year's historic election is particularly exciting. I voted today and am feeling so very grateful for this country and for our democratic system. I am also grateful that today is the last day for political ads and robo-calls, at least for a while!
Election Day marks the end of a long campaign, but November 5 marks the first day of the work that really matters. Our thinking on issues and values may have become clearer approaching the election, but we will need to get more actively involved with those issues and on behalf of those values beginning November 5. As the competitive nature of the campaign may have divided us as people, we will need to move quickly and decisively to come together. This is more than just wishful thinking. The challenges in front of us are far too ominous and dangerous to continue as we have been. Finally, November 5 is the day for all of us to make a turn toward the center. We will not find unity on the left or the right.
What does all this have to do with faith? Faith challenges us to move toward each other in love rather than accept what feels like a natural drifting apart according to our differences. Faith challenges us to keep a larger vision in front of us - that we are all brothers and sisters. Jesus called us to give power away and to lead through serving others. These are more than just inspiring words. They are challenges laid before us - challenges each of us, and all of us, will need to choose to take on starting November 5. "God bless us everyone."
Thanks for continuing to bless me as we journey
together.--Jack Price
