Enotes Inspiration at Church |
Are
you familiar with the song, "Just a Closer Walk with Thee?" No one knows who
wrote it, but untold people have sung and been blessed by it. Here are the
words.
Just a closer walk with Thee, grant it, Jesus, is my
plea, Daily walking close to
Thee, let it be, dear Lord, let it be. I am weak,
but Thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied as long as I walk, let me walk close
to Thee. Through this world of toil and snares, if I
falter, Lord, who cares? Who with
me my burden shares? none but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.
At Crossroads Church,
where I serve as Senior Pastor, we sing and play this song every couple of
months. Last fall, our rendition got very "Dixieland" and one of our members was
inspired to write this poem. She very kindly gave her permission for me to share
it with you here.
Let It
Be
Preservation hall got
nothing on my church
In praise, we rock
and glide and swing
Just a closer walk
with thee
The tinny ching ching
of the tambourine
Keeps the beat and we
tap our feet
Grant it, Jesus, is
my plea
The low moans of the
Baritone
know the sorrow of
being alone
Who with me my burden
shares?
The soaring sweetness
of soprano sax
Sends bright waves of
shimmering prayer
Let it be, Dear Lord,
let it be
As beat plus melody
make music
People plus music
make love
When we lift our
voices to sing as one,
I wonder
Is Jesus the muse?
Or does music bring
the news
That sooths the weary
soul
and gets us moving in
the pews?
Does the question
really matter?
If I falter, Lord,
who cares?
I choose the path of
gratitude
Let me walk it
everywhere
Thank you, God, for
this church
And for the people
that I love
Thank you for your
spirit
That joins us all as
one.
As we walk
together,
Let us all walk close
to thee
Let it be, Dear Lord,
let it be.
